On the spore for nintendo ds i cant figure out how 2 melt the damn ice in the path how do i do it ?

in the ice part of spore for the nintendo ds

there is a chunk of ice in the way and when u throw a rock at it it says that u need 2 melt it kina first

oh u just have to destroy the machine that surrounds the area by throwing rocks on them and then the temp will warm up and u can destroy the ice by throwing rocks on it, u just have to hit it many times
