Personally I was very disappointed with Spore - which probably serves me right for expecting so much from it.
Essentially, it's like kiddy clones of other games - some from right back when home computers first appeared in the 1970s. Everything is mind-numbingly simple and very repetitive.
Phase 1: You create a tiny organism smimming in the oceans. You eat things and try not to get eaten yourself. As you grow you gain points for eating and for killing other creatures. These points are spent in creating the next 'evolutionary step' in your species. Eventually you make it up on to land and you will be a herbivore, carnivore or omnivore depending on the choices you made in this stage. This is actually the best stage of the game and I found it very dull.
Phase 2: You are now a creature on land and you have to go out and explore. You make friends with, or wipe out other species. Finding bones gives you new body parts when you evolve. The skills you have are limited and very simple.
Phase 3: You are now a tribe and you have lots of exciting things to do like ... ummm ... collect fruit, or sing to your neighbours. Sadly there's still nothing riviting going on and even the Mexican dancing in your village square will only keep you amused for a short time.
Phase 4: Now you have a Civilisation to manage. So you spend ages creating vehicles and buildings for a stage that lats no more than 30 minutes it actual play time. You collect spice and sit back and watch while your little people attack the other people in the world.
Phase 5: Still awake? OK, so now you can embark on galactic conquest. Spend ages making a spaceship and then fly from planet to planet making friends or enemies. Do pointless things like shoot infected animals, collect bits of stuff, trade spice, create colonies that send you out to kill a few more animals. Frontier Elite did this so much better 20 years ago and the graphics weren't much worse. Sadly, what should have been the most exciting part of the game turns out to be the most boring and pointless and you very quickly get fed up of trying to find planets. Combat is pointless because you get blown up before you can even target the enemy.
The whole thing looks like educational software for toddlers ... but without the education.
It may be better with the addition of an expansion set or two, but as it stands, it's a lot of money for a very tedious game that looks and plays like something for 3 to 8 year-olds. Before discovering Second Life, I used to adore The Sims 2. Sadly, Spore isn't even 1% as good as The Sims 2. The cutesy elements are just plain annoying and the graphics are, quite frankly, dreadful. If the game-play or levels of interaction were half decent, then the other problems could be forgiven, but they are even worse.
My advice is to wait for The Sims 3 next year, because Spore is not going to entertain you anywhere near as much as The Sims 2 does now.
Spore is a bore.Is the spore game fun? i love the sims 2 and it seems like a good game?
In my opinion Spore was a bit of a let down. The game passes through very quickly and its fairly easy in most bits. Compared to all the advertising, the game is a bit disappointing.
Although it is fun the first few times played and creating a creature isn't to bad either. Is the spore game fun? i love the sims 2 and it seems like a good game?
Yes the game is very fun.You get to make to make your own detailed creature conquer planets and destroy or civilize other races. The game is so much fun and you never need the cd again after you download it.You will need some memory (rounding 1-5gb)and a good graphics card but well worth the wait!Is the spore game fun? i love the sims 2 and it seems like a good game?
